I work on the unglamorous half of data: getting it from where it is produced to where it is useful, reliably, and fast enough that nobody thinks about it.

For the last five years that has mostly meant streaming systems. At General Motors I worked on the pipelines carrying telemetry for over 13 million vehicles, using Java, Akka, and Apache Pulsar. At H-E-B I build the path from operational databases into the warehouse, and the services that read from it — products, pricing, promotions, and demand forecasting for every store in Texas.

The work I am proudest of is rarely the clever part. It is noticing that a job which takes an hour and sometimes fails does not need to take an hour, or that a request waiting on a live query could be waiting on a table instead.

I studied computer science at UC Irvine, finishing in 2019. I live in Austin.
